| About : |
I am a hugely experienced teacher of piano and musical theory, having taught for over 45 years in a large variety of institutions and situations. So, if you are really keen to learn the piano and/or musical theory, then I am keen to teach you.
I live in Knutsford, in Cheshire, and I much prefer to teach you in my own home, since I am fully equipped here to do the job properly. However, I will make visits to your home providing the facilities, including a reasonable instrument, are in place.
You need to be bright to play the piano and practising between the lessons should be an absolute priority for good progress to be made. Theoretical exercises need to be completed - unless you get stuck - between lessons too!
For all those worried parents, I am fully CRB Enhanced Checked and I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), who check all qualifications and know the history of all their teachers. I encourage parents to stay in the sun-room next to my studio, so that they can see and hear the lessons in progress, thus ensuring their children's safety and enabling them to encourage their children during the week in their practise.
Playing the piano should be fun and I try to make it so. So, if you or your children have a sense of humour, are willing to work hard and want to 'get on' fast, then I am your man. If you are not prepared to practise regularly or work out the answers to your theoretical questions, then please do not waste your time - or mine! I am happy to teach you just for the fun of it or to help you pass your examinations.
I hold the MPhil and MEd Degrees and the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Education from the University of Manchester. I am also a GRSM and an ARMCM from the Royal Manchester College of Music, now the Royal Northern College of Music.
