My oil portraits are highly influenced by Egyptian Fayuum portraits, Medieval, Flemish and Renaissance portraiture.
My love of these striking, decorative and evocative historical portraits combined with my theatrical background (prop-maker for 10 years) has inspired me to paint my sitters with the same air of mystery with an occasional coquettish glint in their eyes.
My portraits are painted in oil on wood panel and influenced by my prop-making years, I like to distress the surface just before the final coat of wax varnish to add depth and a sense of age.
I like to create an air of faux grandeur with my paintings so that they might be mistaken for ancestral family paintings which wouldn't look out of place in a museum, listed building, or castle.
Recently my work has been seen on BBC's Doctor Who. (The Girl in the Fireplace)
